Spring/Summer 2019: Hair Trends

Spring and summer are times of change. Fresh new looks dominate the catwalk, from florals to neon, fashion becomes vibrant, interesting and exciting at this time of year, but what about hair? The fashion week hairstyles this year also reflected the same fresh outlook. From a natural, wearable wet look, to a statement hair accessories, we have the perfect looks fresh off the catwalk to suit all of your hair needs this spring/summer.

1. Wonderful Wet Look

Chloe’s spring/summer catwalk provided inspiration for the most simple of looks for this time of year. A wearable wet look, demonstrated here on both straight and curly hair, it can mix up your look without the need for a drastic change, and requires very little time or effort to perfect. A simple gel or mousse can be used to create the effortless slicked back style, and leave you looking like you’ve just stepped out of the ocean in Ibiza, and can be easily transferred from day to night. You will exude effortless sophistication with this look, and channel your inner mermaid simultaneously, what’s not to love?

2. Braided Baby

Max Mara brought us some serious hair inspo with these long, slicked back braids. A middle parting, with all the hair slicked back to form a low, long braid, this look is certainly striking. Whilst these examples from the show are on models with enviably long hair, those with short hair can recreate this, with either a shorter braid, or a hairpiece, which you can pick up on Amazon for under a tenner. The braids are tied with a thick rope like band, perfect for hiding the clip if you were to use a hairpiece. This is perfect for daytime wear, and is the definition of business in the front, party in the back. You too can channel your inner Queen Elsa with this style.

3. Bangs Bangs Bangs

Now, we all remember that disastrous trip to the hairdressers when we convinced ourselves to get a fringe, and came out crying. Well, fear not, times have changed, and the fringe is very much back. Erdem has brought us all of the fringe inspo, with two slightly different styles, showing how easy it is to effortlessly pull off this controversial look. The first style on the left is thick and block cut, with an uneven finish to add that effortlessly cool model perfect style. If you don’t think that this is for you, try the style on the right, a much wispier cut allows for easier styling, and means you can push pieces to the side if you don’t want it in your face all day.

Effort rating: 3/10 (yet this one may be less easy to reverse than the other styles, so make sure you have the confidence for this slightly more drastic change here)

4. Hot Hair Accessories

Dolce and Gabanna and Versace really know how to pull off the hair accessory trend. Dolce have gone with a traditional ‘florals for spring’ look, which in fact is groundbreaking due to their use of amazing hair accessories. Hats, flower crowns, hair clips, feathers and crowns galore, their show was an eclectic mix of bohemian flower queen inspired headpieces, and we are HERE for it. This look is PERFECT for summer, for a wedding, graduation, garden party or just a day out with the girls, these gorgeous flower inspired accessories will leave you feeling like a total queen, and will add glamour to any outfit. Versace also brought their accessory A game, with a collection of gorgeous luxe hair slides. Hair slides are making a HUGE comeback this year, with pearl and diamante slides dominating the catwalk and red carpet, and has infiltrated through Instagram already. You can pick up a lovely selection from shops like ASOS, or even Primark if you are on a budget. This trend is so easy to recreate, and is accessible to all, and therefore is our personal favourite.

5. Pastel Princess Unicorn

Marc Jacobs Spring 2019 1

Marc Jacobs really stepped it up a notch with this style. Imagine every little girls dream hair – pink, pretty, with the ability to make her look like a unicorn, and that’s this trend. You can rock some badass pink tresses, without the first thing people say to you being ‘OMG your hair is pink!’. This is much more subtle, and wearable everyday, yet still stands out from the crowd and makes you look effortlessly cool. Whilst this colour is gorgeous, it is very hard to achieve unless your hair is already very naturally light, so unless you are truly dedicated to the pink hair game, perhaps leave this one to the blonde babes.

Effort rating: 8/10

Those are 5 of the top hair trends for spring/summer 2019. There is something for everyone, whether you want a completely different style, or just want to accessorise a bit more, with these looks your hair will always be looking 10/10!
